SERVE IT RIGHT:
Reminder that the Club endorses ‘tasting’ wines.
BUSINESS ITEMS:
- BYLAWS: noted that the executive is currently working on updating the Nanaimo Winemakers bylaws. As soon as a suitable draft is completed, the document will be forwarded to the members to be voted on.
- VARIETAL COMPETITION:
- Steward: Norm is standing in as steward in Don’s absence but Don will be back before the Varietal.
- Entries: please support our competition by entering your wines. Feedback is invaluable.
- Silent auction: donations are requested as early as possible. Donations can be dropped off c/o Doug Morrison.
- Dinner: As last year, dinner will be hors-d’oeuveres style. Stewards will pour the medal wines and voting Tickets: Rainer will oversee the tickets. There will be approximately 80 available with club members having first option to purchase.
- EDUCATION: Peter will be receiving the grapevine and the Winemaker magazines and will share pertinent information with club members. Noted that mentors are available to work with members looking for experienced wine-making assistance. Please speak to Peter to arrange someone to work with you if you so wish.
EXECUTIVE MEETING:
The February Executive meeting involved extensive planning for the Varietal, scheduling upcoming Education sessions, feedback on the Pressing News and other various business items.
SAANICH SOMMELIERS RESULTS:
Awards and results were announced and presented to Don Graves, George Beck, Doug Morrison and Franco Sartor.
RAFFLE WINE:
The raffle wine, an 2002 Australian Redstone Shiraz/Cabernet from Coriole Vineyards was won by Ian Baker??
EDUCATIONAL SESSION:
Ray Bodnar generously shared his experience and tips for making second runs and wines from kits (his notes attached). Thank you to Gary for recruiting Ray for this informative session.
NEXT GENERAL MEETING:
will be held March 6th and also please note that the April meeting will be postponed for one week and will be the 2nd Tuesday of the month – April the 10th.
OTHER UPCOMING MEETINGS:
- The February executive meeting will be held on Thursday, February the 8th.
- The Judges’ Guild meeting will be held Thursday, February the 15th and the wine will be ‘apertifs’
