NW General Meeting

ATTENDEES:

George Beck presiding. David Burt, Rod Church, Dave Croot, Gary Dobrovolsky, Neels du Plessis, Bud Eyers, Rita Feschuk (secretary), Don Graham, Richard Haertel, Rainer Hocker, Peter Huyghebaert, Norm Lemmen, Bryon Malthouse, Harry McLeod, Doug Morrison, Constanino Paladino, Leo Poirier, Vern Rogers, Franco Sartor, John Taylor & James Waring.

MINUTES:

Minutes of the January meeting were circulated via the Pressing News.

SERVE IT RIGHT GUIDELINES:

Reminder that the Club endorses ‘tasting’ wines.

TREASURER’S REPORT:

Noted that the current balance in the Nanaimo Winemakers account is approximately $3,000.

CHIEF STEWARD’S REPORT:

Our competition: The annual competition will take place on March 7th. Drop off points for entries & trophies for the Nanaimo competition are George Beck’s, Doug Morrison’s & Ken Marson’s. Entry deadline is February the 21st.  Volunteer sign-up sheet circulated at the meeting.

Saanich Competition results from January 17th: Three club members submitted entries. George Beck earned 1 bronze, 1 silver & 1 gold medal and his Bordeaux blend earned the best red in show. Leo Poirier earned 2 silver and 6 bronze medals and Don Graham came home with 3 silver medals. Congratulations to all!!!

Raffle wine for evening. The raffle wine at this meeting was a Barolo from Piedmont, Italy.

NW COMPETITION DINNER:

Tickets are now for sale. Doors will open at 6 and dinner will be served at 7 pm. Please contact Rainer if you are planning to attend. Volunteers will be required to steward the tables – please let Peter Huyghebaert know if you are available.

FREEZER USE:

The current facility that the club has been using is moving to Duncan. The other local facility is more expensive and less convenient. TABLED until the Executive meeting, which will also discuss cancelling this year's NW Grapes operations.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Executive Meeting: February 12th at Don Graham’s.

Judge’s Guild: Blackberry will be the featured wine at the Nanoose Hall on Thursday the 19th of February.

EDUCATION SESSION:

Club members enjoyed a very informative session of white wines in progress introduced by Rod Church.
