2010 Christmas Social
Maureen Millar
Thanks to the management of Peter and Willie Huyghebaert, and the help of a handful of members, the Lodge looked cozy and festive for the Christmas Social. Food was varied, plenteous and fabulous. We had opportunity to try a few wines that have done well in recent competitions and could see why those medals had been won. Good stuff :)
But the White Wine Taste Off drove us all crazy. Peter provided four aromatic white wines for us to compare and differentiate. They were all so aromatic and delicious that we couldn’t make out which was which. No one named them all correctly, and those of us who did have some right knew it was more by luck than good management.
Those luscious white wines:
(A) Jackson Triggs 2007 Dry Riesling $14.95
(B) Inniskillin 2009 Pinot Grigio $13.95
(C) Sumac Ridge 2009 Gewurztraminer $14.05
(D) Gray Monk 2008 Unoaked Chardonnay $17.95
Prize Wine - Prospect Winery Ogopogo's Lair 2009 Pinot Grigio $14.99
I happened to be standing at the right place at the right time and had a sample of Don Graham’s champagne. Never mind tasting the stars, you could also hear the angels sing!
The casual atmosphere and opportunity to mingle and chat gave us a chance to learn about one another’s idiosyncrasies and eccentricities – believe you me, there are quite a few of these floating around in the club – yours truly no exception! Wonderful evening made even more so for me because the Dobrovolskys picked me up and saw me home safely.
